The FBI fails to locate suspected terrorists after they purchase guns, because of John Ashcroft's interpretation of the Brady Law. Last year, Ashcroft contradicted his legal counselhttp://www.hsshf.org/hsshf_cont2.htm inside the Department of Justice when he testified in front of Congress claiming that the FI can't audit the background check system to determine if suspected terrorists bought guns.

California Delete

The California Pistol and Rifle Association suggests that the assault rifle ban be renamed "The Homeboy Gun Control Act of 99 to properly credit and recognize all the Hispanic and Black gangbangers (dead, alive and imprisoned) who made the passage of this legislation possible...In the four years, 1994 to 1997, non-whites committed no fewer than 86 percent of all handgun homicides, and that blacks and Hispanics were hugely overrepresented. The California rifle and Pistol Association points out that law-abiding Anglo gun owners are paying the price for the criminal mayhem of others."

House Bill 12 calls for all gun permit information to be exempt from public disclosure. Although the bill would require sheriffs to notify state officials of the number of permits granted, renewed, suspended or revoked, that information would not be public, and anyone who releases it could be charged with a misdemeanor."

Florida Delete

Bill HB 155 (drafted by the NRA) prohibits everyone including police from keeping a computer database of people who sell guns at pawn shops. The shops can maintain paper records for one year. Other exceptions include the NRA's own membership lists, the state's list of people licensed to carry concealed weapons and records pertaining to stolen guns (for no more than 30 days after the weapon is recovered). The penalty for a police agency is a third-degree felony and a fine of up to $5 million. The House Judiciary Committee passed the bill. The next step is a vote by the full house in March.

The whereas section of the bill includes erroneous history, such as that Castro and Hitler used gun registration "to confiscate firearms and render the disarmed population helpless…."

What Marion Hammer, former NRA President and Florida lobbyist had to say about this:
"We don't want government to know who has the guns. If the government knows who has guns and where to find them, they can ban them and then confiscate them."

Missouri Delete

NRA pushed a comparable secrecy clause making it a crime to reveal the names of CCW permit holders. A St. Louise Circuti Judge issued a temporary restraining order to block this from taking effect.
